Knew You Were Trouble Chapter 3

Just to explain a little, I post the chapters on my Fanfiction account, so if you want to check that out, go ahead here

Hello and Welcome dear readers. First, I want to apologize for the delayed chapter, with the summer school mock-diploma coming up thinks have been busy. I spent the afternoon at the Indigo Bookstore near my house and found myself longing to write more for the story (I was planning to delay a week).

Well without further ado,

I don't own the story Harry Potter or any of the original J.K Rowling Characters, this story is purely fictional and for entertainment only.

James smiled softly as he was handed the familiar object. Sleek black wood, polished and well cared for, that formed the handle lead to the bristles which were soft, yet sturdy. Carved carefully in cursive gold lettering was the edition number 310, the latest Nimbus model in the line Vesta. He mused, while stroking the handle lovingly, of mounting the broom and flying away to feel the cool crisp wind rush around him slicking back his hair, while reaching speeds that only a Vesta could produce. After handing him the broom, Teddy went around with Professor Avalon and the Trisswell students handing out broomsticks and rectangular mirrors of black glass to the students. They were at ease now that the dragon had departed, and had begun to move about inspecting the mirrors curiously and raving about the brooms.

He was handed a mirror by Nicia Rhys, the eccentrically dressed girl who reminded him of his strange aunt Luna. Close up, she looked less crazy than when she first arrived. “Nicia Rhys, right?” he asked, curious about the odd girl and her odd gadgets.

She was tall—almost as tall as he was— 5’9 to his 6’2. Her pink hair was tied in a high ponytail with two strands curling down either side of her face. Her lanky body twisted at the hips as she turned to face him. As she looked up he was met with large brown doe eyes.

“Call me Rhi” she said keeping the contact where others would look away. Odd. He thought, smiling internally. His lack of response made her turn fully towards him; a worried look donned her face, wrinkling the pretty features.

“Sorry, am I making you uncomfortable?” she asked, “I do that sometimes”

“No, I’m fine” he remarked, surprised by her upfront attitude. He extended his hand, “James Potter”

Nicia –or rather Rhi looked at his extended hand then back to her own arms which were occupied with precariously balanced mirrors.  She maneuvered her hand out from the pile to unsteadily shake his hand.

“Nice to meet you James”

“Do you need some help with those?” he eyed the mirrors suspiciously, not entirely trusting their stability.

“Oh would you?” she sighed gratefully. He fell into step with her, helping to hand out the mirrors to the students who were chittering excitedly about the brooms.

“So what are these things exactly?” He asked, waving one of the mirrors around. Rhi’s eyes lit up.

“They’re cellphones, though probably not the kind you’re used to” She passed a phone to Lily.

“Cellphone?”

“You know a cellphone to call, text message all that jazz” She handed out the last few cellphones to a group of third years. James shook his head.

“A cellular device” she said despairingly, “a portable telephone?” she was met with a blank face.

She looked at him with an expression of utter amazement. “You know what a phone is, right?”

“Kind of” James grimaced, “however we use owls, not telephones”, she gaped at him momentarily,

“I’ve never met anyone who’s never used a phone before”

“Well there’s a first time for everything,”

She mumbled what sounded like ‘unbelievable’ and ‘British’. James laughed at the stunned girl, who looked up at the sound.

“Unbelievable” she repeated, shaking her head. “Alright then, here” she reached out and took the phone. James watched as her long slender fingers expertly whizzed over the screen. Holograms sprung from the phone and she begun to click and tap buttons which activated more screens and charts. She reached out to an image of an ear piece and pulled it— literally pulled it— out of the hologram. She pushed a button on the side of the phone and the holographic screens retracted. She handed him the device.

“Come closer” she said and James leaned downwards. She placed the earpiece in his right ear. “Alright now say “Activate,” James echoed her words and he heard a beep.

“Say, call Nicia Rhys” He complied; She then lifted her hand to her own ear and murmured a few words.

“Alright, you’re now speaking with me” she held her hand over the speaker on her device. “Fly, straight above us”.

By then they had captured an audience who watched curiously as James mounted the broom.

“Wow James, aren’t you the obedient one” Rose remarked, a few students laughed and Rhi’s mouth curved into a small smile.

“Shut up” he growled before kicking off. He hovered around fifteen feet above them.

“Alright, can you hear me?” her voice sounded from his earpiece.

“Yeah, clear as if you were right here with me” He laughed, before swooping his broom around and speeding across the field. He heard a cheer rise form below him, while laughter sounded from his ear.

“Enjoying yourself?” she laughed

“Oh, yeah” He replied, “Now let’s see how fast this thing can go”

“This is the Begin Tower” Calliope announced, while gliding into the colossal building. They planned to stay the night in the city, rooming in Trisswells city dwellings. A building known as the begin tower where students of the academy could board while being in the city. Apparently, only the ninth years stayed in the city on a regular base, due to the program where they had a year to pursue individual study.

The towers lobby was decorated with sleek modern furniture broken up with occasional vintage pieces. It had a professional feel, yet comfortable as well. The students buzzed excitedly, looking around with wide eyes. It was more like a hotel then a school building, Lily thought. Signs pointing to the rec room and pool caught many people’s attention. As the group spread out to explore the new room, Lily looked up. The ceiling was decorated with silvery tiles that reflected the activity below. It was nothing compared the majesty of Hogwarts. While the new world was enchanting, Lily longed to be back at the castle. Back home. But she couldn’t stand another year at the castle, at least not until the next year.

“It’s no Hogwarts Lil” a voice sounded from behind her, “never will be”

She froze. She would know that voice anywhere, but she never thought that she would hear it here. She remained frozen, too shocked to move. Footsteps. They stopped directly in front of her. Her head was bowed, she refused to look up. She took a deep breath, and then looked up.

“Oliver” she whispered hoarsely.
